Hello Dr. Sadrieh,

If flat feet do not hurt, but there is no arch at all, does a person still need to be concerned?  My son is 13 and is very active and involved in a lot of after school sports, but he never complains of pain in his feet.  Should I consider getting a consult with a doctor?

Thank you.

Hello Donna,

Yes, flat foot without pain is still a concern.  Pain in the foot comes from inflammatory problems of tendons or erosion of the cartilage on the joint surfaces… neither of these is what we want.  The whole point of the Liber-Archy procedure is to prevent these situations from occuring.

I recommend you take your son to a Foot Surgeon in your area and consult with them about his feet.  They should take xrays and evaluate the foot structure as well as watch him walk.  At that point, you will have some answers as to which direction you should go to prevent his feet from getting any worse.

Thank you for your question on our forum, I hope my answer helps.
