YellHello, I live in Sweden and am being treated for a large bunion. My surgeon recommend 6 months using custom insoles to see if I have pain relief before resorting to surgery.

However I feel this is a delaying tactic as the deformity will eventually have to be removed. I do not want to loose the cartiledge and get arthritis.

I would like to know the name and description of the screw used in the newly shaved bone that the patient will never feel and specific description of the procedure so that I can discuss this option with my Swedish surgeon.

Thank you!

Hello Adrianne,

Postponing the inevitable is an unfortunate thing in orthopedic deformities since they can only lead to further damage to the joints.  You are correct in your assessment.

The screw that we use here is made by Tornier.  Is a double threaded cannulated screw made of titanium.  It is referred to as the Headless Compression Screw.

You can forward my information to your surgeon and I would be happy to correspond with him or her to discuss our technique.

Good luck and thank you for visiting the forum.
